Chronic neck pain is neck pain that persists for months. It may relate to muscle strain, joint or disc changes, injury such as whiplash, or posture, and sometimes no specific cause is found.

Clinicians usually take a history and examine movement, strength and nerve function. Imaging or other tests may be used when findings suggest a specific cause.
