Fibromyalgia: clinical trials and information

Fibromyalgia is a long-term condition described by widespread body pain, often with fatigue, sleep problems and difficulty with memory or concentration. Its causes are not fully understood; research has looked at how the nervous system processes pain signals, and at genetics, infections, physical or emotional trauma and stress as possible contributing factors. It is diagnosed more often in women than in men.

There is no single laboratory test for fibromyalgia. Clinicians usually base a diagnosis on a person's history of widespread pain and other symptoms over several months, a physical examination, and tests to rule out other conditions with similar symptoms.
